Recently, the Louise Georges Yves team was tasked with styling and setting the scene for a mehndi pre-wedding celebration in the beautiful, outdoor atrium of the Newport Beach Marriott.
Mehndi, better known as Henna in the western world, is a pre-wedding tradition that originated in India and involves the art of painting temporary, intricate designs to the prospective bride’s hands and feet. Besides being a gorgeous adornment, mehndi is a powerful medicinal herb recognized for alleviating wedding day stress and nerves — a welcome benefit for sure! The ritual is a nighttime festivity involving friends, family, food and fun and often goes until the wee hours of the night.
Our team brought a fresh perspective to this time honored tradition by drawing influences from the vibrant outdoor markets of Morocco and India. We created a patchwork floor covering with quilts made of vintage sarees, ornate lanterns adorned the structure and floors, billowing drapery provided a vibrant backdrop and gorgeous floral were displayed in antique brass vessels and traditional moroccan tea glasses.
We had an amazing time creating this event and experiencing a tradition that over a century later still brings Indian brides and their families immeasurable pride and joy.
A magical market inspired mehndi for sure!
